(#1) Revan

Revan is the star of the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which many fans consider to be one of the greatest stories ever told in the galaxy far, far away. This faceless Jedi was once a great leader during the Mandalorian Wars before traveling beyond the edges of the known galaxy and returning as the Dark Lord of the Sith. His reign of terror ended when a group of Jedi managed to defeat him and wipe his memory.
Revan is a captivating character, despite the fact that we never hear him speak. His redemption and return to the light side still pulls at the heart strings to this day.
(#2) Darth Nihilus
Darth Nihilus is one of the most terrifying Sith lords to ever live, a being who constantly hungered for Force energy. In fact, Nihilus could absorb the energy of whole planets and leave them devoid of life. In Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, this monster is the embodiment of the ultimate evil.
(#3) Ahsoka Tano
- Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars
There are few animated Star Wars characters who are more beloved than Ahsoka Tano, who was introduced as Anakin Skywalker's Padawan learner in The Clone Wars. This Togruta Force user left the Jedi Order before its eradication and continued to fight the Empire alongside the Rebellion many years later. Even after witnessing so much death and destruction, Ahsoka has always had a good heart.
(#4) Mara Jade Skywalker
You ask any fan of the old Star Wars EU who their favorite non-movie character is, and you're more than likely to hear the name Mara Jade Skywalker. This Force user began her life in the service of the Emperor, who used her as an enforcer and assassin. After her master died, Mara Jade decided to leave her assassin life behind and become a smuggler. That is, until she met Luke Skywalker in the Timothy Zahn novel Heir to the Empire. Eventually, Mara Jade becomes Luke's wife.
(#5) Grand Admiral Thrawn

Grand Admiral Thrawn has the distinct honor of being the first major villain introduced after the death of the Emperor in Return of the Jedi. Thrawn is a brilliant strategist and virtually unstoppable on the battlefield. While he first appeared in the novel Heir to the Empire and was later wiped from continuity, Thrawn is so awesome that Disney decided to bring him back to the official canon as a villain in the Rebels animated series.
(#6) Starkiller
Galen Marek was so powerful in the Force that he managed to disarm Darth Vader as a child during an Imperial attack on the Wookiee home planet of Kashyyyk. Vader was impressed with young Galen, and decided to take the boy back with him and train him as his secret apprentice who would one day help him overthrow the Emperor.
In The Force Unleashed, Galen eventually switched sides and joined the Rebellion. He even defeated Vader in a duel on the Death Star and almost managed to kill the Emperor!
(#7) Darth Malak
- Star Wars
Malak was a Jedi hero before being turned to the dark side during an expedition into the Unknown Regions of the galaxy. He eventually returned to terrorize the Galactic Republic alongside Revan.
But, as is the way of the Sith, Malak later betrayed Revan and took the newly-established Sith Empire for himself in Knights of the Old Republic. He spread fire and death across the galaxy. To this day, Malak remains one of the most memorable villains in Star Wars history.
(#8) Bastila Shan
- Star Wars
Bastila Shan was one of the great heroes of the Jedi Civil War, a time of great conflict in the Old Republic era. Bastila was a valuable asset for the Republic due to her gift of battle meditation, which allowed her to boost an army's morale through the Force while demoralizing the enemy. She's a key part of the story of Knights of the Old Republic.
(#9) Jaina Solo
- Star Wars
In case you haven't guessed already, Jaina was the daughter of Han and Leia Organa Solo in the old continuity. And like her parents, she was a great hero of the Republic. Both as a member of Luke Skywalker's New Jedi Order and an ace X-wing pilot flying alongside the elite Rogue Squadron, Jaina saved the galaxy countless times, including during the events of The New Jedi Order and the Legacy of the Force book series.
(#10) Asajj Ventress
- Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars
There aren't many Star Wars characters as cool as Asajj Ventress, who aligned herself with Count Dooku in the early part of The Clone Wars before being betrayed by her master and vowing to kill him. Even though she's a villain, Asajj is one of the most badass female characters in Star Wars, every bit as tough and intelligent as Leia but with the added bonus that she can decapitate you with a lightsaber.
(#11) Jacen Solo

Although Ben Solo (Kylo Ren) is now the canon offspring of Han Solo and Leia Organa, fans of the old EU came to know Jacen as the first son of the heroic couple. Jacen starred in many books and comics as a young hero of the Republic, joining his uncle's New Jedi Order and becoming one of the strongest Force users in the galaxy. Unfortunately, like Ben, Jacen eventually fell to the dark side in the Legacy of the Force series of books.
(#12) Kyle Katarn
- Star Wars
It's a shame that Kyle Katarn is no longer in continuity because he's one of the best characters in Star Wars. First appearing in the Dark Forces video game series, Katarn began his career as a Stormtrooper before defecting and becoming a mercenary for the Rebellion. His adventures led him to Luke Skywalker and the ways of the Force.
Katarn eventually became a Jedi and even discovered the mythical Valley of the Jedi, which could bestow great power to anyone who could channel its concentrated Force energy. Katarn is undoubtedly one of the galaxy's coolest adventurers.
(#13) Darth Traya
- Star Wars
Darth Traya is the Sith mastermind who plunged the galaxy into a new dark age virtually devoid of Jedi. In the video game Knights of the Republic II: The Sith Lords, Traya presents herself as a former Jedi named Kreia, as she instructs the player in the ways of the Force. Eventually, her scheme to destroy whatever is left of the Jedi is revealed and she rises back to her position as Dark Lord of the Sith. Through ruthlessness and manipulation, Traya proves herself to be one of the most dangerous women in the galaxy.
(#14) Kanan Jarrus
- Star Wars Rebels
Kanan Jarrus was one of the only remaining Jedi in the galaxy by the time the Emperor wiped out the Order. While he had to go into hiding, Kanan eventually took the fight back to the Empire and became one of the Rebellion's most important agents in the Rebels animated series.
(#15) BT-1 & 0-0-0
Move over, C-3PO and R2-D2, the psychopathic droids BT-1 and 0-0-0 are here and they're ready to torture some organics. This mass murdering version of the protocol-astromech droid duo is one of the most entertaining aspects of Marvel's Darth Vader comic series. These two innocent-looking murder droids are as funny as they are absolutely terrifying.
(#16) Hera Syndulla
- Star Wars Rebels
Hera Syndulla was one of the Rebellion's key operatives who fought to free the galaxy from the Emperor's grasp. In Rebels, she is a true leader who always fights for the cause no matter how the odds are stacked against her. Hera's also an amazing pilot who could definitely present Han Solo a challenge.
(#17) Corran Horn
While Corran Horn began his adventures as a member of the elite Rogue fighter squadron in the X-Wing series of novels, he later joined the Jedi Order in the novel I, Jedi in order to save his wife, Mirax, who was taken prisoner during a secret mission for the New Republic.
Corran became a powerful Jedi and fought alongside Luke Skywalker in many conflicts. He remained one of the galaxy's most important heroes until he was unfortunately wiped from continuity.
(#18) Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra
- Darth Vader, Star Wars, Doctor Aphra
While Marvel's first Darth Vader on-going series introduced many awesome new individuals to the galaxy, none are as cool as the scummy archaeologist turned thief and mercenary Chelli Lona Aphra. At first devoted to Vader's plan to defeat those who oppose him, Aphra later has to fend for herself, even defying the Dark Lord in order to survive the ruthless galaxy she calls home. She's basically the Indiana Jones of Star Wars.
(#19) Prince Xizor
- Star Wars
Prince Xizor was the cunning leader of the Black Sun criminal organization and one of the most influential people in the galaxy at the height of the Empire. In the novel Shadows of the Empire, Xizor sought to kill Darth Vader, who had condemned his entire family to death years prior, and supplant him as the Emperor's right hand. He came pretty close, but Vader ultimately defeated him.
(#20) Rae Sloane
Ever since Disney rebooted the continuity of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, Rae Sloane has been a central part of the Empire. Working her way up from determined cadet to cunning admiral, Rae has quickly become one of the most beloved female characters in the new Star Wars canon. It was Rae who led the Imperial forces in the days after the Emperor's defeat over Endor, as detailed in Chuck Wendig's novel Aftermath.
