(#1) She Had A Tumultuous Relationship With Marilyn Manson
Wood and shock-rocker Marilyn Manson met at a party in West Hollywood's famed Chateau Marmont when she was 18 years old and Manson was 36. The Thirteen actress appeared in the controversial music video for Manson's song, "Heart-Shaped Glasses." The couple went on to have an up-and-down love affair for four years, even getting engaged in 2010.
Wood was drawn to the excitement of Manson's rocker lifestyle. She told Rolling Stone:
And I was craving danger and excitement. I looked at my mother one day and said, "Mom, I'm gonna get on this tour bus for eight months and see the world and have a crazy journey and find myself, and if people aren't okay with that, I'm sorry, but I can't live my life for other people."
The couple's relationship did not go without criticism. "Then you're demonized for figuring it out and getting messy," Wood said. "People would call me a whore when I walked down the street, and you can't not be hurt by that." Wood and Manson split for good in 2011. In later years, Wood made numerous references to an emotionally and sexually abusive relationship - even detailing some of her horrid experiences before Congress in 2018 - and while she never named Manson specifically, the time period stated by Wood lines up with her relationship with the musician.
(#2) She's Genderfluid
Wood admitted during a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone that one of the main things that attracted her to Marilyn Manson was his androgyny. The Westworld actress is genderfluid and came out as bisexual in 2011.
She said she started to feel attracted to women as early as age 4 or 5:
It was always talked about like a phase or something stupid, or something you were doing for attention... You know, bisexuality is worthy of eye rolls. And I didn't realize how damaging that was until I tried to have healthy relationships as an adult and realized that there was still all this shame and conditioning and stigma around my sexuality that was really affecting the way I related to people. I think I was taken advantage of because someone knew there was something about me that they could exploit.
(#3) Wood's History Of Sexual Assault Led Her To Try Ending Her Own Life
In June 2016, Wood posted a 19-minute video directed to the LGBTQ+ community. She wanted to share her story of being mistreated and how it had impacted her. She said in the video, "Nearly half of bisexual women have considered or attempted [to end their life]; they have higher rates of mood disorders such as depression and anxiety; one in two bisexual women has experienced severe [cruelty] by an intimate partner."
Wood attempted to end her life at the age of 22. She felt her situation became so dark and depressing due to the "physical, psychological, sexual" mistreatment she experienced. "I've been [assaulted]. By a significant other while we were together," she said. "And on a separate occasion, by the owner of a bar... I don't believe we live in a time where people can stay silent any longer. Not given the state our world is in with its blatant bigotry and sexism"
(#4) She's In A Two-Person Band Called Rebel And A Basketcase
Wood is part of a two-person band called Rebel and a Basketcase - the other member is Juilliard-trained actor Zach Villa. Wood and Villa met while performing at a John Hughes Cabaret wherein participants reenact scenes from the famed director's filmography.
Wood played the basketcase and Villa played the rebel during their reenactment. The names are references from Hughes's 1985 high school dramedy, The Breakfast Club.

Wood credits David Bowie for being a musical influence and saving her life. Bowie passed when her band was in the middle of writing their first album. "He's been propping me up throughout every chapter of my life. And so it was so strange losing him the second I decided to put music out into the world... I guess that’s very profound. But he saved my life."
Wood talked about how Bowie's ever-changing identity helped her with her own struggles growing up:
You couldn't define him, and when I was growing up, that’s how I felt about myself. It was like he was always producing this message of hope and understanding, always reaching out. He was so in your face, but never in a 'f*ck you' way. He was an ever-revolving, ever-changing work of art; so fluid, so unapologetic, but uplifting at the same time.
(#6) Wood Met Her Ex-Husband On The Set Of A Green Day Music Video
Wood met British actor Jamie Bell in 2004 on the set of Green Day's music video for "Wake Me Up When September Ends." The couple got married in 2012 and had a son together. However, they announced their separation in 2014.
"Evan Rachel Wood and Jamie Bell have decided to separate," a representative announced. "They both love and respect one another and will of course remain committed to co-parenting their son. This is a mutual decision and the two remain close friends."
(#7) Wood Is Set To Earn Equal Pay In Season 3 Of 'Westworld'
HBO's Westworld features an ensemble cast with several different storylines. However, one could easily make the argument Wood's character Dolores Abernathy is the most recognizable and intriguing on the show. Even so, Wood did not earn the same pay as her male co-stars Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris during the series's first two seasons.
Before Season 3 aired, HBO remedied the issue by announcing plans to pay Wood the same as her male co-stars.
“I was just told that, you know, ‘Hey... you’re getting equal pay.’ And I was like [gasp]. And I almost got emotional,” Wood said. “I was like, ‘I have never been paid the same as my male counterparts... Never, never.'”
“I found out... I’m always fighting for that,” Wood continued. “And I have turned down projects - Westworld, it’s like, I get it a little more. It’s like, ‘Well, you’re Anthony Hopkins or Ed Harris.’ But I think now we’re all doing equal amounts of work and really hard work.”
(#8) She Was Nominated For A Golden Globe Award At 16 Years Old
Wood got her early start in Hollywood by appearing in several different series and made-for-TV movies. However, her breakout role came in 2003 with the independent film Thirteen. In the hard-hitting drama, she plays Tracy Louise Freeland, a rebellious teenager who gets involved with some very adult pastimes.
The role earned Wood nominations at both the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

I used to get beat up in school around fifth grade, but it’s funny because I refused to use it when I got beat up. I just thought you weren’t supposed to. But I think once I did. I just did a really [forceful] kick and everyone was like, "Okay, I’m gonna go away now."
(#11) She Turned Down A Role In 'Mean Girls'
During an April 2018 interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Wood revealed one of the biggest missteps of her career. She admitted she declined to play a role in the 2004 Tina Fey teen comedy Mean Girls.
"It's even worse, I turned it down," Wood said. "There's a good reason. The only reason was because I was already supposed to do a film called Pretty Persuasion that was set in a high school, that was very Heathers-esque and it was very similar."
Mean Girls has gone on to become one of the most profitable teen comedies ever, while Pretty Persuasion only opened in select theaters. Thankfully, Wood has had plenty of success in her career and a good attitude about passing on the comedy. On The Tonight Show, she even made a plea to the movie's writer: "Tina, if you’re here, I’m so sorry we got off on the wrong foot. As long as the next movie you’re doing is not about a robot uprising, I will happily, happily do it."

I am on Facebook but it’s mainly for friends and family, so it’s not my real name. But I am on Twitter a lot. I resisted it for so long, but I love it because I get to connect with people I look up to - actors, comedians, and singers. I’ve made new friends and I get tickets to shows and things, like I’ll mention a band and get a tweet back that says, “You’re on the list,” and I’m like, “I love Twitter!”I follow a lot of news sources so I get news really quickly, and I love it because you get to talk about whatever issue you’re passionate about, so I’ve used it to rah-rah for certain things.
(#13) She Can Relate To Her 'Westworld' Character
Wood's Westworld character is an AI named Dolores, and she does a complete 180 at the beginning of the second season. She goes from a sweet, quiet, submissive damsel in distress to gnarly villain seeking revenge. The transformation is perhaps a nod to the modern-day Me Too movement and the ongoing fight females must face every day if they want to be considered equal in society.
“I went to the Women’s March in Washington and someone had a sign with a photo of Dolores on it that said, ‘I imagined a story where I didn’t have to be the damsel,’” said Wood. “That was the moment I realized Dolores was an icon for a revolution.”
Just as Dolores wakes up to the reality of her situation in Season 2, Wood has also experienced her own awakening over the past few years. She came out publicly as bisexual, confessed to self-harming in the past, publicly talked about surviving assault, and became a mother.
"People say Westworld is timely right now, but to us it’s timeless, and I think we feel like people are listening in a different way now,” said Wood. “To be in a role like her at the moment, especially with my history, seemed almost fated.”
(#14) Wood Came Out As Bisexual On Twitter
On August 23, 2012, Wood took to her Twitter page to come out as bisexual. She wrote, "I myself am bisexual and have always 'joked' about Miley giving me gay vibes. Not a bad thing! Just an observation."
Wood also said during an interview with Esquire that she dated girls. "Yeah, I'm more kind of like the guy when it comes to girls. I'm the dominant one. I'm opening the doors, I'm buying dinner. Yeah, I'm romantic."
(#15) She Was Engaged To Her Bandmate, But It Fell Through
Wood became romantically involved with the Rebel part of her rock duo Rebel and a Basketcase, her bandmate Zach Villa. The couple announced their engagement in January 2017. However, it seemed the two were not meant to be.
By September 2017, the engagement ended and the couple broke up.
