  Six months after his Progressed Lunar Return, Jimi Hendrix died from asphyxia after taking drugs, passing out, and choking on his vomit. He was born a Sagittarius, and his energizing Mars in enigmatic Scorpio accounted for his rock star appeal. Communicator planet Mercury and pleasure-loving Venus in Sagittarius gave him his playful, adventurous attitude but his Moon in Cancer made him a sensitive soul, often making him feel insecure and easily depressed. Jupiter, the planet of expansion and good fortune, was also in Cancer, meaning he may have been more concerned with his career than his emotional life.

  During his Progressed Lunar Return, this unsatisfied feeling would have become more prominent, with the Saturn Return piling on more feelings of despair. Everything aligned to make her yearn for the spotlight and embrace it fully when she received it. However, in addition to her charisma, intelligence, and amazing talent, Winehouse suffered from poor impulse control. She struggled with heroin addiction for several years before passing away due to alcohol poisoning.

  Winehouse had a particularly difficult Saturn Return; Saturn made contact with multiple planets in her Natal Chart at that time, including destructive Pluto, as well as Neptune, which represents escapism and drug abuse among the planets. She wasn't going to get through it easily, one way or another.

  Janis Joplin joined the 27 club when she overdosed on heroin and died in 1970, five months after her Progressed Lunar Return. Joplin was known for being incredibly insecure thanks to teasing she received as a child regarding her looks, refusal to fit in, and unusual approach to life. Her Moon in Cancer within her Natal Chart would have preempted this insecurity, made her highly sensitive, and likely caused her an extreme need to be loved. Mercury in Aquarius would account for her eccentricity, and Mars in adventurous Sagittarius led her to live on the edge, craving and experimenting with drugs, sex, and lots of Southern Comfort. At the time of her death, Joplin was made even more vulnerable by the opposed Uranus (unexpected changed) and Chiron (our emotional wounds). For both she and Jimi Hendrix, Chiron aligned with their North Node, suggesting their mission on Earth would have problems with its completion - the realization of their karmic destiny was just too painful to bear.

  The final nail in the coffin was the angle formed between her Natal Saturn and Pluto. Pluto represents death and rebirth in our Natal Chart, and having such a revolutionary planet aspected during her Saturn Return would have compounded its impact many times over.

  The former lead singer of Nirvana was a Pisces and struggled with depression and heroin addiction throughout his life - Pisces is the sign most associated with escapism and addiction so that isn't entirely surprising. He was also diagnosed with ADD and bi-polar disorder as a child, making for an even more unsteady emotional base. While Pisces are known for being more sensitive and moody, having his Moon in Cancer as well as Venus and Mercury in Pisces - all water signs - made his emotional nature even more powerful. Cobain had an up and down relationship with his Cancer wife, Courtney Love and struggled with accepting how famous he had become in such a short amount of time, as well as the pressures presented by being a celebrity. He committed suicide in 1994.
