7 ½ Year Old Apple Brandy (80 Proof) Laird’s Old Apple Brandy was first introduced by the Laird Family in 1964 to commemorate New Jersey’s 300th anniversary.  It is a 100% straight apple brandy aged in charred oak barrels. Once the brandy has rested for 7 ½ years in our barrel-ageing warehouses, a select tasting is done to determine which barrels will be used for this exclusive brandy.  The aged brandy is then bottled at 80 proof.  Our Laird’s Old Apple Brandy exudes aromas of baked apples and cedar, while apple, pear and wood dominate the palate.

Brandy is a distinct and classic liquor made by distilling wine, generally considered a late evening or after dinner drink. Some consider brandy to be one of the truest forms of alcohol. There are many brandy types, from top shelf brandy or cognac brands to other more affordable but still popular varieties. So curl up in your smoking jacket, grab a cigar, and let's get serious about good brandy. Read up on the different kinds of brandys here, from the most popular to the obscure.

Brandy was invented by accident in the 12th century, when merchants concentrated wine for easier transportation with the intent of re-adding the water. However, they discovered that the concentration process improved the flavor. Thus, brandy drinks and brandy liquors were born. Some brandies are aged in wooden casks, but others use caramel coloring to imitate that process. The best brandy is a debatable distinction, but one thing is for sure - thank goodness for those merchants!

Because of the complexity of the process, for each of the many famous brandy brands, the producer comes up with a brandy that tastes slightly different from any other. However, there are only three major brandy types. The first is grape brandy, like Remy Martin, Hennessy, and Korbel. The second is fruit brandy, like Laird of Cusenier. The third and final type is pomace brandy, like Fairgoulette. Which of these top brandy brands do you prefer? Regardless of which brandy names suit you, be sure to drink it out of a snifter. That's how the pros do it.

This list is to help determine which are the best tasting brandy liquor brands out there, through votes from the Ranker users. Some great Brandy makers are listed below, including both domestic and foreign brandies. From expensive brandies to affordable varieties, it's all here and open for voting. So what is the best brandy? Vote up your favorites and vote down the brandies that just miss the mark.
