Why does Kakashi keep his mangekyo sharingan under wraps? Because despite the eye's incredible potential, using it comes with serious consequences. Using his mangekyo will generally keep him bedridden for a couple of weeks - likely because he isn't an Uchiha, he can't ever deactivate it. Because using it is so exhausting, he can't easily train his mangekyo - which means that when he uses it, he risks opening up holes in parts of reality that he'd rather keep intact.
To avoid all of this, he keeps his mangekyo's powers under control by covering his eye. He only uses it when there's no other way to defeat an opponent.

The phoenix tattoo that covers Fai D. Flowright's back was put there to suppress his magical powers - powers that are so strong that if they get out of control they could destroy an entire dimension. After trading it to Yuuko, he decides to stop using magic for a while to avoid accidentally hurting anyone.
As it turns out, he's actually better off without his limiter. That's because due to a curse, he has no choice but to eliminate anyone whose powers exceed his own. Without the limit in place, there are far fewer people who actually fit that description.

Hiei's Jagan Eye is the key to some of his strongest techniques, but he usually keeps it covered with a headband. Similarly, he wears bandages on his arm in order to suppress his Dragon of the Darkness Flame. He only unleashes these techniques when it's absolutely necessary. That's because without the limits, his powers are strong enough to wreck everything around him, even taking weaker beings' lives just from being in its presence. What's more, using these attacks causes him serious physical damage - his arm was not happy with him after he used Dragon of the Darkness Flame.

As a cursed member of the Zodiac, Kyo Sohma transforms into a cat when embraced by a member of the opposite sex. He also transforms into a super-strong monster who smells like rotting flesh. He avoids this transformation by wearing a string of prayer beads that were carved from human bone and dyed with blood.
Kyo is a martial artist, but he doesn't live in a world where a transformation like that would be useful. Instead, it would be socially destructive and humiliating. So he keeps the bracelet on at all time...until his adoptive father takes it off and forces him to reveal himself to Tohru in order to finally confront his emotions and move past them.

As part of his training, Rock Lee wears weights on his legs. While most people who do this wear relatively light ones for basic conditioning, Lee's weights are so heavy that when they fall to the ground, the ground breaks. With the weights on he's already ridiculously strong and fast, but when he takes them off during his battle with Gaara he's buzzing around the stadium so fast that it's impossible to track him. This is how he manages to actually land a hit on Gaara, something no one else had been able to do, thusfar.

The central difficulty in Aki Izayoi's life is that she has psychic powers she finds difficult to control. These powers let her materialize duel spirits and their effects - which sometimes results in having an out of control monster rampaging around and attacking people. Because her power has hurt others, she wants to keep it under wraps as much as possible. While it's unclear whether the effect is psychological or physical, her hair pin acts to keep her powers in check.
By the end of the series, she's gained more control over her abilities and is able to use them to her advantage.
