  In Nightcrawler, Louis Bloom is whomever he needs to be to get what he wants. Like Satan, he uses underhanded deals to feed his desires. If someone doesn't follow through on the arrangement, or if he feels as though he's been wronged, Bloom doesn't hesitate to relay swift, painful consequences. 

  Throughout the film, Bloom traps characters in circumstances that require them to sacrifice their comfort for money and power. He takes equipment, pressures a news director into a physical relationship, and puts people in danger, all so he can continue to grow his financial standing. 

  Louis Bloom isn't worried about doing unto others as they would do unto him. Instead, he takes what he wants before someone else can grab it.

  (#9) Andrew Detmer

  • Chronicle

  Chronicle is the classic tale of young people who are gifted with mysterious powers and tasked with choosing how they'll use their newfound gifts. Andrew Detmer is a high school student who's shunned by his classmates, and as his powers grow, so do his anger and quest for attention. 

  Detmer goes from just wanting people to like him to offing one of his best friends with a bolt of lightning - before wiping out the city of Seattle with his mind. It's clear from the moment he receives a small amount of power that he's altered, an analog for the rush of energy Satan likely feels when he first challenges God.

  (#7) Anakin Skywalker From 'Star Wars' 

  The Devil begins his life working for God as one of the main angels of Heaven. Things go south when the two wind up on opposing sides after God decides to create the human race. Satan turns dark and goes to battle with the angels before taking dominion over Hell. 

  The story of Satan's fall from grace essentially has the major bullet points of Anakin Skywalker's turn towards the dark side. Anakin starts his life as a sweet little pod racer who's strong with the Force, but he slowly succumbs to the pull of the Sith. By the time the Clone Wars break out, he's well on his way to being one of the major monsters in a galaxy far, far away. 

  As far as characters who might as well be Satan go, Anakin Skywalker has it all: the look, the backstory, the pride, and even the special powers.

  • Trainspotting

  In Trainspotting, Begbie is initially a welcome onscreen presence, but he devolves into a man who seeks out destruction just for the sake of it. The only reason he seems to hang around a group of friends who are in a constant stupor is because of the control he can exert over their dazed minds. 

  Begbie is fun and kooky at first, and he creates scenes that make the people in his inner circle feel alive. By the end of the film, however, he's trying to cause trouble wherever he goes. He even provokes conflicts with random pub-goers over a glass he threw.

  Like Satan, Begbie makes people feel they're the coolest and most important person in the world - before throwing them into terrible situations with no positive solutions.

  • The Social Network

  The Social Network's version of Mark Zuckerberg is a young man whose quest for greatness puts him at odds with everyone he knows and loves. As he breaks off from Harvard to focus on building Facebook, he brings along a small group of dreamers, before ditching them once he gains fortune and fame.

  Despite people continually trying to bring the Facebook founder down, he always outwits and out-thinks them, all while taking particular glee in making their lives a little bit worse. No one in this film is "good," but this portrayal of Zuck paints him as a figure best described as devilish.

  • Fight Club

  That voice inside your head, the one you trust even when you shouldn't, is known as an intrusive thought. But in fiction, it can be a message from the Devil himself. In Fight Club, Tyler Durden is an incarnation of the intrusive thought. He swaggers and entices the film's narrator (most commonly referred to as "Jack") into complying with his most basic desires, before attempting to shape the world in his image. 

  Satan, as the intrusive thought, convinces a person they're making the best, most practical decisions. Instead, they're just following his diabolical plan, which will ultimately bring them to their knees. As fun as it can be to trust our innermost Tyler Durden from time to time, it's probably best to keep that voice at bay.
