  • Jay Zeamer, Jr. on Random Real Life Soldiers That Were Like Captain America

    (#7) Jay Zeamer, Jr.

    • Dec. at 89 (1918-2007)
Jay Zeamer was the pilot for the crew of the Old 666, a B-17 that was loaded to the teeth with machine guns. On a recon mission over Japan, the 666 encountered 17 Japanese fighter planes and what ensued was a 45 minute dog fight that would make George Lucas foam at the mouth. Zeamer ended up taking shrapnel through his arms, legs, and wrists (all of the things he needed for flying) before flying the 666 another 600 miles and landing it safely.
  • Brian Chontosh on Random Real Life Soldiers That Were Like Captain America

    (#11) Brian Chontosh

    • 45
In the early days of the Iraq War, Chontosh and his squad were patrolling an enemy perimeter when their Humvee drove into a trench and was set upon by all manner of enemies. Chontosh did what every red blooded, video game playing American would do and he started shooting everything in sight, and when his M16 jammed he just grabbed whatever gun or ROCKET LAUNCHER he could find. In the end he took out 20 enemy combatants while wounding several others.
  • Michael J. Fitzmaurice on Random Real Life Soldiers That Were Like Captain America

    (#6) Michael J. Fitzmaurice

A specialist fourth class in the US Army, he'd just returned from guard duty and was settling in to his bunker when the base came under heavy artillery and mortar fire. As his base was being blown to bits by Vietnamese Suicide Bombers, three grenades landed in his bunker. He grabbed two of the grenades and tossed them back outside, and jumped on the third one and covered it with his flak jacket. Suffering only partial blindness and deafness, he took out the rage of still being alive by beating the Vietnamese to death with his bare hands.
  • Ben L. Salomon on Random Real Life Soldiers That Were Like Captain America

    (#2) Ben L. Salomon

    • Dec. at 30 (1914-1944)
After rising to the rank of Captain as an Army dentist, Salomon was sent to Saipan in the Pacific Theater, where he served as an impromptu regimental surgeon to the troops. While treating the wounded, his camp was invaded by Japanese troops. Salomon shot two of the soldiers outright, kicked a knife out of another's hands, and headbutted the last into submission. He then ordered all of the wounded out of the tent and covered them with suppressive fire from a machine gun that he found. His body was found the next day surrounded by 100 Japanese troops!!!
  • Anthony Kaho'ohanohano on Random Real Life Soldiers That Were Like Captain America

Kaho'ohanohano was fighting in the Korean War when his platoon began retreating and he decided to stop an entire army from chasing them down. Obvi he decided to use ALL THE GUNS, but eventually he settled on his trusty shovel. Eventually his body was found surrounded by the 13 men that he beat to death before finally succumbing to his fatal wounds.

  • Richard Marcinko on Random Real Life Soldiers That Were Like Captain America

    (#15) Richard Marcinko

    • 78
Marcinko's awesomeness began when he was a Navy SEAL in Vietname, where there was a 50,000 piaster bounty on his head. After that, he was put into an elite wrecking crew who was used to attack and infiltrate the U.S. military's own bases. It turned out he was too good at being at attacking bases and was kicked out of the military before being sentenced to a year at a minimum security prison where he wrote his memoirs, Rogue Warrior.
