(#12) Jim Survives By Acting More Like The Infected
From YouTuber Olivia987
I love the transformation in Jim in this scene, finally adapted to the dog eat dog world he now lives in. When he stabs the soldier, there's no one-liner, just collected rage. In fact the reason he survives (I feel) is because he acts like an Infected who can reason and calculate.

(#7) The Infected Seem Superhuman Because They Are Played By Athletes
From IMDB
Athletes were cast as the Infected because of how important physicality is to them. Danny Boyle felt that since athletes can do things other people can't, they would be interesting when translated into the movements of the Infected.

(#13) Jim Picking Up Money Off The Streets Is Based On The Cambodian Genocide
From IMDB
The scene when Jim finds the money on the steps and picks it up, was based on a photograph Danny Boyle had seen of Cambodia after Pol Pot had been driven out.

(#6) Newspapers And Posters Tell Us What Happened Before The Events Of The Movie
From Redditor u/Kspence92
I've always wondered how the goverment, society and the military would have responded to the rage outbreak. The film marketing provided a little background info that I'll try elaborate on
Day 1 Exposure Day 3 Infection Day 8 Epidemic Day 15 Evacuation Day 20 Devastation
Also a discarded newspaper has the following info
EVACUATION. Mass exodus from Britain causes global chaos. Refugee Crisis Looms. PM declare a state of emergency. Military ordered shoot to kill. Goverment checkpoints overrun. UN to build giant refugee camps. Chaos at all British airports. All roads out of London gridlocked. US navy patrols British waters.
Also, there are WARNING posters dotted around London declaring sections of the city too dangerous to travel in whilst other posters announce a curfew. A hard to make out poster in the cafe Jim goes Into is from the Department of Transportation and announces that all goods deliveries to and from the UK are suspended due to the quarantine.
In a deleted scene there is a passenger train which has been converted to a mobile hospital by the Red Cross, likely to evacuate patients out of London.
In the comics we see people panic buying medicine at a pharmacy in London shortly before the infection hits the city. The graphic novel shows Kings Cross station in chaos as people rush to evacuate. Parliament Square is shown abandoned with dead soldiers lying around.
Anyway, the point in this post was really just to see if anyone else has any background I do or opinions on the 28 days before Jim woke up. A prequel would be amazing.

(#14) Jim's Postcard Has A Deeper Meaning
From IMDB
The Bible verse on Jim's postcard is from the Book of Nahum. Nahum was a prophet who predicted the destruction of the great city of Nineveh, the capital of the Assyrian empire. It was to be utterly destroyed as a punishment for its inhabitants' sins.
