(#9) This Wasn't The First Time She Catfished

Andersen and Dunn were not Chartier's first catfish victims, but, hopefully, they will be her last. Chartier admitted to investigators that she had catfished at least 11 other victims over the course of three years. She confessed that at one time she had a fake profile on which she pretended to be Brody Jenner, the reality star and son of Caitlyn Jenner. She also admitted to pretending to be model Natalie Skyy, as well as a Playboy Playmate Jaclyn Swedberg.

  • She Meets Anderson's Best Friend Tom on Random Things About Catfish Story of A Professional Basketball Player

(#3) She Meets Anderson's Best Friend Tom

Dunn then began receiving messages from someone named Tom Taylor, a gamer who claimed to be Andersen's best friend. Dunn never questioned the authenticity of Taylor and Andersen's friendship, as she reasoned that there would be no way of Taylor knowing about her unless Andersen had told him. It was also Taylor who encouraged Dunn to take her online romance with Andersen to the next level. Taylor let Dunn know that he was aware that Andersen really wanted to meet her and that he would be able to arrange said meeting. Andersen ended up buying Dunn a plane ticket and she then went to stay with him for a weekend.

  • The Catfisher Was A Hermit Who Hadn't Left Her House For 12 Years on Random Things About Catfish Story of A Professional Basketball Player

(#7) The Catfisher Was A Hermit Who Hadn't Left Her House For 12 Years

For 15 months while police were investigating the case, Dunn and Andersen still had no idea that another person was involved in their relationship, nor that they were also responsible for the extortion and the leaking of the nude photos. That also meant that for 15 months, Andersen had to deal with his reputation being destroyed by the media frenzy that had erupted. Well over a year later, investigators finally figured out what happened and were able to explain their findings to Dunn and Andersen.

As it turns out, Shelley Chartier, a 31-year-old woman from Canada, was behind the entire scheme. Chartier had dropped out of school in the sixth grade to stay at home to take care of her sick mother. As a result, she went nearly 12 years without ever leaving her house. To dull her boredom, she would spend a lot of time playing video games and browsing online, and eventually began catfishing both Dunn and Andersen. It was eventually discovered that Chartier had pretended to be Dunn, Andersen, Tom Taylor, and even Dunn's mother.

  • They Were Being Catfished To Each Other on Random Things About Catfish Story of A Professional Basketball Player

(#4) They Were Being Catfished To Each Other

Dunn arrived for her weekend visit in Denver and Andersen was there to pick her up, right on schedule. Throughout the weekend, inconsistencies began to arise in their conversations. For instance, at one point Andersen asked Dunn when she was going to Africa and Dunn, confused, explained that she didn't have any intention of going to Africa. At one point, Andersen was playing his Xbox and mentioned that Dunn's sister was online too. Once again, Dunn had no idea what Andersen was talking about and informed him that her sister didn't even own an Xbox. The confusion continued to build when Dunn mentioned Andersen's supposed best friend Tom Taylor and Andersen was clueless as to who Taylor was. Dunn figured Andersen was playing a joke on her and dismissed the conversation.

When Dunn arrived home after the weekend, she continued to regularly chat with both Andersen and Taylor. One day, she excitedly informed the two of them that her friend gave her tickets to a Clippers event and that she was going to meet NBA player Blake Griffin. Both Andersen and Taylor were hugely upset over this and Taylor even went so far as to threaten Dunn, stating that he would have her raped and murdered. Then, Taylor took the threats even further by saying that Andersen had shared the naked photos of Dunn with him and that he had already posted them online with all of her personal information, such as her name and address. Upon seeing her naked photos online, Dunn told her mother what was going on and they called the police.

As soon as the police got involved and began looking through all of the emails, chat, and phone records, they quickly discovered that everything linked back to IP addresses located in Canada. As it turns out, Dunn and Andersen had been communicating through a third party the entire time, a complete stranger who was heavily invested in their relationship. The stranger created fake emails, phone numbers, and Facebook accounts to pretend to be both Dunn and Andersen. The stranger initially noticed Dunn leaving comments on Andersen's real Facebook account and made a fake account for Andersen to send Dunn messages from. From there, the stranger also began talking to Andersen while pretending to be Dunn. Both Dunn and Andersen were being catfished to each other.

  • Where Are They Now? on Random Things About Catfish Story of A Professional Basketball Player

    (#11) Where Are They Now?

After her arrest, Chartier continued to live in Canada and eventually met a man online named Rob Marku, whom she ended up marrying. Chartier, who continues to live in Canada on probation while her husband is in New York, claims that incarceration helped her anxiety and that she's no longer afraid to leave her house.

Dunn still resides in Southern California and is still posting her selfies all over social media. Dunn even did another episode of Catfish: The TV Show after Chartier was released from prison because she was concerned Chartier would go back to catfishing people. She stated that she was disappointed Chartier did not receive a longer sentence. All the attention Dunn received from being catfished has only made her popularity grow, and she's currently competing for Maxim magazine's Maxim's Finest contest.

Lastly, Andersen was traded to the Hornets in February 2017, but was immediately put on waiver, making him a current free agent. He has gone on to become engaged to Tina Wiseman and has been doing his best to stay out of the tabloids, which is probably a good thing.

She was sentenced to 18 months in prison and ended up serving 12 months of her sentence, being released in October of 2016. She then went on to serve two years of probation. Understandably, she is now only allowed to use the Internet under court-ordered supervision.
