  • (#1) Housekeeper Quits Upon Seeing Disgusting Room

"It was a regular day with a slightly smaller than average schedule of rooms for the day, so I was in a good mood. I had 12 rooms that day. Normally, I'd have 14 to 16.

So I get to my last room, excited to be close to finishing for the day, and I open the door only to be greeted by a grotesque display of everything that is considered repulsive and dangerous to touch. There were - let's see if I remember this right - used condoms... on the bed accompanied by stains... There was blood all throughout the room - too much blood...

There were used needles... other random... things: empty pill bottles, broken and unbroken liquor bottles, cigarette butts along with ashes and burn marks, plus tons of trash.

Then, the bathroom. There was p*ss everywhere. More blood. Vomit in the tub, in and around the toilet and the ceiling. There was vomit on the ceiling. I nope-d out of the room, called the front desk, and asked them to call the police. The cops came to investigate... the room and probably the people who had rented it and checked out. I left for the day.

The next day rolls around, and I look at my sheet and see that same room. Confused, I go up to the third floor, and I see the room in the same condition minus the drug stuff. Condoms, vomit, blood, bottles, cigarettes, trash - all still there.

I call the manager and tell them I'm not doing it. It's a job for a biohazard team. They tell me, "Just get what you can. Wipe everything you can off the surfaces. We'll have a fabric cleaner come in for the rest."

Nope. I quit. I dealt with small amounts of bodily fluids on a daily basis, and I was fine with it, but that was WAY too much to ask of a 17-year-old kid on minimum wage."

  • (#2) Family Trashes Room During Week Stay

"My mom was a hotel maid, and I worked with her during the summers. I remember one day she was done early with her rooms, so she came to help me finish up, so we could go home. It's always the last freaking room that takes the cake.

We walked into the room and were automatically hit with the stench of sh*t and vomit. The people staying there were a family of four and were put up because their apartment had flooded or something. Apparently, they had refused cleaning for the last week and now we knew why.

The bathtub was filled with garbage. One of the walls was smeared with sh*t. Their two-year-old kid had apparently smeared his own [waste] onto the wall, and they just left it like that and it had dried up. There was a corner with a mountain of diapers. The older kid had gotten sick (probably from living in that filth) and had thrown up everywhere, and I mean everywhere.

My mom and I refused to clean the room. We asked the manager to come and see. It was so disgusting the family got kicked out of the hotel, and we had to call a cleaning company to get the dry [stuff] out of the wall. Child protective services also came and asked us questions.

    Just a complete sh*t show."

  • (#3) Bachelor Party Destroys Room

"A stag party (bachelor party) was staying in the hotel I work in, and they got ridiculously drunk one night before retiring to their rooms. The next day after they checked out, we went in to their room only to be greeted by the foulest smell I've ever experienced. Upon entering, we discovered that the two guys sharing one room had not only vomited, but had sh*t everywhere in this room. All over the beds, the floor, in the bin - some of it was even smeared on the walls.

I can only imagine that they were so intoxicated that they lost all control of their bodily functions. No wonder they checked out so hastily.

In conclusion, that room had to be completely refurbished - new beds, new carpet, new paint on the walls. It was weeks before it was usable again. Needless to say, the culprits were contacted and made to pay the cost of damages as they'd obviously tried to escape without blame."

  • (#4) Guest Overstays Their Welcome

"We noticed a smell on a Saturday, but we'd been having problems with our central air system and didn't think about it. Come Monday, one hall smelled horrible. A maid grabbed all the managers when she tried to open a room and smelled something...

The guest had been dead in there for three days, but he had a chain on the door, and we can't cut it until the "Do Not Disturb"sign has been on the door for at least two days at our hotel.

I will NEVER forget that smell. We had to replace the carpet, replace the bed, paint the ceiling, everything. Ugh."

  • (#5) Couple Leaves a Few Gifts Behind

"I dated a girl in college who worked at a local Holiday Inn. I went to pick her up one afternoon, and a guy pointed me down the hall to a room she was cleaning.

As I got closer, the smell made my nose hairs stand on end, and I almost gagged right there. I pulled my shirt up over my face to keep from puking. She and her coworker came out and simply said, 'Assh*les!"'

It turns out a couple was in the room and had left two filled condoms [dangling] over the top of the bed lights. The condoms had partially melted and cooked the [contents], which was what the god-awful smell was."

  • (#6) Cleaning Lady Finds a Few Things Floating in the Bathtub

"We had a lady who cleaned hotels tell us about the time she walked in and found 10 severed heads in the bathtub with the hotel water running. She immediately left the room and had the manager call the police. Tons of police came to investigate the gentleman after he came back.

It turned out he was in charge of an ENT cadaver lab being held the next morning and needed to thaw the specimens. It was tough to explain, but it got sorted out once the heads were all accounted for."

  • (#7) Guest Checks Out on Christmas Eve

"My mom was a hotel general manager, and I basically grew up in hotels.

The worst was a man who hung himself in the hotel room on Christmas Eve. He had driven through the night to see his kids for Christmas, and his ex wouldn't let him see them, so he went back to his hotel room and hung himself.

My mom is still traumatized over finding his body. After that, she organized a party in the hotel lobby for every Christmas Eve and always invited all the guests to try to get people out of their rooms and to lift their spirits if they were spending Christmas in the hotel."

  • (#8) Maid Who Probably Works at Overlook Hotel

    "BLOOD. So much blood.

I worked at the hotel. The pillow was soaked solid. The mattress was covered. Because I worked in the dirtiest hotel in town, we shampooed the carpet, flipped the mattress, and rented it out that night.

That means someone was sleeping on a mattress still damp with tons of blood. Yuck."

  • (#9) Golf Resort Hosts Orgy

"I worked for a small golf resort for several years, and this story still burns a hole in my brain every time I tell it.

We have these small hotel rooms that contain two beds and a bathroom. I serviced it (fresh towels, etc.) for three days, and everything was normal. On check-out day, six men checked out. I had seen them meet up with their wives/girlfriends (who weren't staying with them) at the front desk as I was clocking in.

I walk in to the unit after they left, and there was sh*t and blood smeared everywhere -the walls, the sheets, the shower, and even the TV. There were about 20 condoms laying out on the heater attached to the wall. As I was removing the sheets to throw them away, two butt plugs with condoms still on them flopped out on the floor, and one started vibrating. It had to be the most disturbing mess I had to clean up.

When I notified the front desk manager, he refused to bill them for leaving such a huge mess to clean up saying, 'This is a place where people come to relax. If they want to let loose, then so be it.'

    I was so mad."

  • (#10) Housekeeper Has Traumatizing Experience

"I worked with a woman who was the head of housekeeping for a large hotel in the area who told me this story.

There was this woman and her daughter who were local, but checked in the hotel for a few days. One of the housekeepers came to service the room one morning, while the mom was outside by the pool. The housekeeper walked in and found the girl in bed with blood everywhere.

It turned out the girl came to town to have an abortion, and the mom needed to hide it from the dad. The girl started hemorrhaging in her sleep (while mom was already outside the room), and the housekeeper actually found her in time to save her life.

The housekeeper was too distraught after all was said and done to clean the room (I can't remember if she quit), so another housekeeper was brought in to finish."

  • (#11) Homeless Man Leaves His Mark Everywhere

"This one time, I was at work with one other girl, and we had cleaned about 20 rooms that day. We go to our last room at check-out time, we knock on the door, and the door slowly opens. . . Oh my God.

There stands a guy no taller than five feet with ripped clothes, track pants, and dirt all over. His hair was a mess, and he had the grossest beard I've ever seen. He clearly lives on the streets and hasn't showered in a few weeks. He tells us he isn't ready to check-out yet, so we leave and go wait at the front desk. Our manager tells us he came in with a voucher for one night from the Salvation Army.

We finally see him leave, so we go to the room - remembering what he looked like should have prepared us for what we were about to see, but nope.

We open the door, and the smell hits us instantly. We walk over to the window to help air it out and notice sweatpants on top of the TV. He pissed himself and left his pants here. Not okay. I walk over to the bathroom as the other girl starts stripping the sheets, and I notice sh*t smeared all over the shower. As I'm standing there trying to figure out what I'm going to do, all I hear from my coworker is "Are you f*cking kidding me?!" I walk out, and she's pointing to the bed saying he pissed the bed. Great, now we need to bring a new mattress up from the basement, but oh wait... She goes to lift up the sheets and we see sh*t f*cking everywhere.

At this point, we're both pissed off to the max and disgusted. We call our manager, and he comes in, gets his wife to take care of the sh*t room, so all was well.

That job f*cking sucked. Got some good stories from there though."

  • (#12) Man Builds Contraption in Room

"My sister was a hotel maid while she was in university and told me this one. She was called to a room because there were complaints of someone making loud moaning noises, and the sound of someone drilling into something. What she walked into would be something she would not soon forget.

A man had suspended himself from both his feet, his body, and his throat, while he was in the air [touching himself]. The drilling sound was from him putting in supports to suspend the ropes from the ceiling. There were also rubber ducks everywhere.

    She promptly left.

    Here's a sketch of it."

  • (#13) "Artistic" Guest Creates Sculpture

"I went to visit a friend once who was cleaning rooms at a motel in a mountain resort town one summer. She had one room left when I got there, so I went with her to basically watch.

She went into the bathroom, screamed, and ran out. Obviously, I had to see what she saw, and there in the bathroom in the middle of the tile floor was a perfectly sculpted "snowman" made of poo."

  • (#14) Aunt Flo Visits a Hotel

"I walked in on a couple [hooking up] once. No biggie, right. Didn't scream, just blushed slightly, and beat a hasty retreat.

They left the hotel at 1 pm, half an hour before my shift ended. I was in a rush to get the room done, so I could go home. I figured it wouldn't take me long.

I was wrong. Two words for you: period sex.

Let me add here that I'm not opposed to the idea... in principle. What I'm opposed to is cleaning up after someone else...

They'd put down towels to save the sheets (thoughtful), but they used the hotel's towels. I had to throw them away in the end.

The towel wasn't big enough though, obviously, since the sheets were blood-stained, too, including the comforter, which they'd hidden in the wardrobe. I kind of thought that a murder had occurred at this point, since there was blood everywhere, but the bin in the bathroom which was overflowing with used tampons confirmed my initial suspicions (they didn't bother to use the sanitary bags provided).

Note to any ladies reading this: if sanitary bags are provided, USE THEM. It's a health hazard to just leave bloody tampons in a bin.

Anyway, I didn't finish my shift until 2:30 pm. It was okay though, since I wasn't really in the mood for lunch anyway."

  • (#15) Staff Finds a Surprise in the Closet

"When I was younger, I worked night reception in a real sh*tty rundown hotel. I took over night shift from the afternoon shift and was given my handover. As per usual on the weekends, we had our late check-outs and wake up calls for airport transfers.

Come 2:45 am, I called the guest in room 3405, but got no answer. I tried again a few more times and nothing still. Now as I had mentioned, this being such a crummy three-star rat-infested hotel from hell, we had a total staff of one: me. Off I went, up three floors with the master key to fetch ''Mr. Colins."

I knocked three times and no answer, so in I went. What I saw next will haunt me forever. Across the room in the double-doored fake mahogany closet was ''Mr. Collins," [undressed] in a standing position, knees bent, shoulder slumped on the inside of the closet with a belt attached around his neck, buckle-side attached to the closet rail. His eyes were closed with a great big smile on his face. Dead as a dodo.

So, first aid training kicked it, but I knew it was for nothing. The dude was cold. I called the ambulance and started CPR, but it was obvious the guy was not coming back. The paramedics took over, but he was pronounced dead straight away.

Working in the hospitality industry, you somewhat prepare yourself for grannies passing away in the middle of the night and the odd heart attack here and there, but I was never ready for auto-erotic-asphyxiation-related deaths."

  • (#16) The Case of the Sticky Yellow Trident

"I used to work part time as [hotel cleaning staff] (I'm a man, so not exactly a maid). Once, I found a sticky, yellow dildo with a smell that will suffocate your soul and scar you for life. It was shaped like a deformed Neptune's trident, with two big poles and a smaller pole, not even half the size of the first two... It was stuck under the mattress, leaving in the middle of it a little sickly green.

So yeah, f*ck you, Neptune's wife."

  • (#17) Janitor Finds Unattended Newborn Babies

"My brother is a janitor for Holiday Inn and was once called to fix something in a guest's room while they were out. He opened the door and found what appeared to be three newborn children in the bed.

It turns out the old couple liked reborn dolls so much they took them on holiday and had added "breathing" mechanisms to them, so the chests would rise and fall like real babies. . ."

  • (#18) When Booze and Curry Mix

"I worked at a hostel for three months.

One morning, we went into one of the rooms, and there was this funky smell. We looked around a bit, couldn't see anything, so we just got to making the beds. We went to straighten out a bundled-up duvet and what do we find? A huge stinking pile of booze-and-curry vomit which some d*ckhead had hidden in the duvet, so he could run away before we found out. We had to wash the whole damn mattress and everything.

We left it outside to air, but the thing stunk for a week."

  • (#19) Supervisor Stumbles Upon Strange Ritual

"I worked as a supervisor to front desk staff, but I'd get calls to go into rooms sometimes for different reasons.

Once, there was a woman who was staying with us as some sort of 'back-to-work' program through the provincial government - she was a drug addict/alcoholic/crazy, f*cking wh*re.

When we cleaned her room, she had set up hundreds of tea light candles in the room, and the bins were overflowing with dirty tissues. There were days worth of breakfast items piled on the bed, rotting away."
