Date: May 20, 1983Reason: Schlichter was a serious gambling addict through his career and post-NFL life and was suspended for the entire 1983 season after losing $489,000 betting on basketball games. He was reinstated in 1984 but played just 10 more NFL games over two seasons.

Date: November 15, 2019Reason: Garrett was suspended by the league for removing the helmet of Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph and striking him in the head with it. At the time of the suspsension, Garrett was unlikely to play for the remained of the 2019 season and could potentially miss time in 2020.

Date: December 17, 1925Reason: Folz reportedly hired high school players to play against his team, the Chicago Cardinals, in order to ensure a victory and help the Cardinals win the 1925 NFL Championship. He was suspended for life, and though he was reinstated the following year, Folz never played professional football again.

Supsension: Entire 2009 season
Date: August 13, 2009Reason: In March 2009, Stallworth struck and killed a pedestrian while driving under the influence. He served 24 days in jail and lost his driver's license permanently. The NFL suspended him for the entirety of the 2009 season, and he returned in 2010 with the Baltimore Ravens.

Date: November 18, 2014Reason: As a result of child abuse allegations, former MVP Peterson played just one game for the Vikings in 2014 before being placed on the commissioner's exempt list. He was officially suspended in November for the remainder of the season and reinstated in 2015.

Date: April 17, 1963Reason: Hornung was suspended indefinitely for gambling on NFL games and associating with undesirable persons but reinstated after one season. Well liked, Hornung continued to prosper in the NFL and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1986.
