About This Tool

The ethnic Chinese in Malaysia are mainly Chinese descendants who migrated from Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hainan during the Ming and Qing Dynasties to the Republic of China. Of Malaysia’s 31.7 million people, 6.64 million are ethnic Chinese. The majority of Chinese Malaysians live in the major cities of Kuala Lumpur (capital), George Town (Penang), Ipoh (Perak), Johor Bahru (Johor), Kuching (Sarawak), Sabah, and Malacca City (Malacca). Malaysia is a multi-ethnic country. Malays, Chinese, and Indians (the three major ethnic groups in Malaysia) all arrived in Malaysia at the same time. Malaysia’s aborigines are not Malays, Malaysians actually came to Malaysia from Indonesia, but since the first prime minister, they have been calling themselves indigenous, leading many to believe that Malaysians mean Malays.
