Fifty years ago, The Netherlands signed a treaty with Morocco that brought Moroccan Labour migrants to the Netherlands. The signatories of the declaration stated that Morocco had not released control over these Moroccan Labour migrants and had established a series of institutions to monitor, intimidate, induce and buy off Moroccans in the Netherlands. As a result, Dutch nationals of Moroccan nationality were not free to invoke human rights violations in Morocco, such as the treatment of activists and disregard for the inhabitants of mountainous areas.
However, there are also many Dutch people of Moroccan origin who are well known in the world. Many of the soccer players -- Ibrahim Afellay, Achmed Ahaoui, Karim El Ahmadi, and actor Ahmed Salah Abdelfatah -- were well known for their multiple citizenship, but that didn’t stop them from taking their place in the world.
