About This Tool

1295, the King’s Edward I of England, convened another parliament, known as the model parliament, in which the king, the Nobles, the Knights, and the city’s wealthy citizens formed a political union, with the exception of the great nobles and the clergy, it was also a step forward from the General Assembly, with two Knights for each county and two citizens for each big city. Since the Knights and the Citizens’ representatives are closely related to each other in fundamental interests and have more common topics, when such councils are convened, they tend to gather together to exchange information and discuss countermeasures. From 1343, they began to meet individually in Westminster Abbey, forming the Commons. The Nobles and the elders of the church also clustered together to form the House of Lords. This is where the British bicameral system originated.
