About This Tool

Podabrus is a member of the Compositae beetle family Cantharidae. There are at least 110 described species of Podabrus collected in this random tool. It comes mainly from Europe, North America, and Asia. Many Podabrus seem to mimic fireflies, such as the winter firefly.

The shape of the Podabrus Species is similar to that of the long-horned beetle, but its wing sheath is soft, its mouthparts are less developed and its antennae are shorter. Adults are active in the flowers or trees branches and leaves, good at hunting other small insects; larvae live in the forest floor, is also a predatory species. The generator lists the specific discoverers of these taxa and when they were discovered in detail, making it easy for scientists who want to study the species.
