Approved by Congress in 1949, the National Foundation for the preservation of history has grown from a foundation to a 270,000-member, non-profit organization, a leader in the movement to preserve America’s cultural heritage. Although the foundation was established by the United States Congress, it was under pressure from citizens to protect their cultural heritage. Congress has been funding the foundation.
