About This Tool

Monroe is a southeast Michigan City, detroit-Ann Arbor-flint Metropolitan area, part of the original 1784 settlements, known as Frenchtown. During War of 1812, the United States and Britain fought the famous battle of the French town outside the city. The 1817 built the city and named it Monroe after the president’s James Monroe. After 1836 Toledo was officially incorporated in Ohio, Monroe was the state’s largest port on the Lake Erie. The American commander in chief of the civil war and the Battle of the Little Bighorn, George Armstrong Custer, was from Monroe. Outside the city is Custer airport, a civil airport that also serves the National Weather Service.

Monroe is a port city in southeastern Michigan close to Lake Erie. It is a satellite city of Detroit and the capital of Monroe County. It’s 40 kilometers from Detroit and 23 kilometers from Toledo.
